VINTAGE ZAJAL
Odette Khoury

Odette Khoury (Arabic: ) Born in the Lebanese village of Zghiri, in the district of Jisr el-Qadi, Odette Khoury is one of only a few female Lebanese zajal poets, and the only woman to perform zajal on the public stage. She started her career in the mid ’70s, despite opposition from her father and many others, who considered zajal unsuitable for women. Her grandfather, Darwish Isa, sang with the famous Chahrour al-Wadi.
